Going on a mission trip for the right reason.

When I was a freshman in college, I hadn't quite reigned in my personality yet. I said whatever came to my mind whenever it came to my mind. Um, lotso word vomit, if you know what I mean.

I was a member of a campus group called Redmen for Christ. Every year, during spring break, the Redmen for Christ would go on a mission trip. In 2001, we went to the projects of St. Louis to hold a VBS for the neighborhood children. There were only five students that went on this particular trip, but there was large group from another college who met us there to work with us.

In our group, we had four girls and one spoken-for guy.

One of the guys from the other group was chatting with me, just trying to be friendly, and asked me why I came on the mission trip. I'm sure he was expecting me to say something like "I want to make a difference in these children's lives and tell them who Jesus is." Instead, I said, "I'm trying to get my MRS degree."

I have no idea why he didn't talk to me after that.
