2 weeks of The 30 Day Shred and I have gained *GAINED* a 1/2 pound. I can't believe it! I've been watching what I eat and staying on the Slim Fast program and still I gained. I'm a little depressed, but also ready to be more agressive. I am starting Level 2 of The Shred tomorrow and I walked 2 miles this morning before working out. Plus, I push the stroller on my walks so that counts for something, right? RIGHT? I thought my clothes were starting to feel looser, but now I don't know. Maybe I'm just dreaming. I knew my metabolism had changed since I started nursing, but I thought losing 10 pounds would be easy like it used to be. No dice, though. *Sigh*
I would think you have probably gained muscle. Don't fret! Muscle weighs more than fat.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in shape, I weighed about the same as I do now, but it was more muscle, and my clothes fit differently.
You're doing well!
Hello Lisa,
ReplyDeleteI am a blog stalker (Sorry)! I love your blog and you have a beautiful family. But I just wanted to let you know (which you may already know) that muscle weighs more than fat. So technically you may not have gained any weight just strengthing your muscles. You work out and eat right so you are on the right track. DON'T GIVE UP!!! Hope all goes well!
Andrea
That is the exact reason I do not own a scale. I would be so discouraged with those results that I would give up... BUT like PP said, I'm sure you are building muscle which weighs more AND burns more calories day-to-day than fat. If your clothes are fitting better and you are feeling better, THAT is what matters... not the number!
ReplyDeleteHey Lisa,
ReplyDeleteTake your measurements. It helps to keep track of when your body is shifting shape but not showing a loss on the scales. I keep up with my measurements and it's amazing the difference I see on the tape measure.
Good luck with the Shred.
Just to be fair, muscle does not weigh more than fat. I don't want to be argumentative to your above commentors, but 1 lb of muscle weighs exactly the same as 1 lb of fat. Muscle IS more dense than fat, however, so it takes up less space than fat does so that is why your body will appear smaller yet you might not necessarily weigh less. Don't sweat the numbers on the scale. I find that I cannot weigh myself more than twice a month. Weight in women fluxuates SO much due to our hormones and on any given day at any particular time, you'll find that scale numbers are just painfully inconsistent and unreliable for a measure of true achievement in toning and accomplishment. Try measuring you arms, legs, waist and thighs with a tape measure and pay attention to how your clothes fit for a more true picture of how your fitness regimen is paying off for you. And don't give up! Losing weight after a baby and as we get older is definitely more difficult that it was before, but it isn't impossible. Level 2 is HARD. The cardio kills me. I am just now 8 days in and not having to do the modified version of everything.
